Carbohydrates; Carbohydrates are a vital key for success in building muscle. If you plan on training excessively, ensure that you consume between two or three grams of carbohydrates per pound of body weight, every single day, your muscles will thank you. Carbohydrates are also fuel for your body, this will allow your body to have more energy before, during and after your work outs.



Workouts; Focus on multiple muscles during one work out session, you should include chest work outs with back work outs, tricep workouts and bicep workouts, quads with hamstrings, etc. Effective workouts will include routines in the same session, that compliment each muscle. Alternate days, chest one day, legs the next, cardio after that or you can go back to chest or upper body. This is a great way to allow muscle groups to recover while the opposite muscle group is being worked. This is hugely beneficial because the intensity of various workouts is easily increased, while decreasing your time at the gym.



Protein; Try to consume protein before and after you work out. A good rule of thumb is to take half a scoop, or a whole scoop, before and after your workout. I personally try to do a glass of water with my protein before my work out, and a glass of milk with my protein after my work out. Milk helps with bone and has a high calcium content!


Diet; Always adjust your diet to suit your muscle needs. You need to increase protein intake, as it is the building block of muscles. Don't just eat MORE, eat BETTER. A Well balanced diet, formulated with less fats, will be extremely beneficial to your conquest for building more and more muscle. Also, throw in a multivitamin, these are hugely under-rated and are superior to a lot of "supplements" out there on the market, just simply due to the fact that they are exactly what your body needs to survive, nothing fancy. It is extremely important that you eat well when attempting to build muscles mass throughout your body. Your body requires certain nutrients and minerals to begin to repair muscle fibers, without these your body will not grow as fast.


Stretching; ALWAYS stretch before you work out, this will stop yourself from getting hurt, as well as allowing your body to do more during the work out, as they are warmed up. Massages are great for relaxation after a work out, and also encourage muscles to grow faster! (Who knew?)


Goals; Make short term goals, set goals for yourself that are short term, and reachable. These will encourage you to keep going, and once you hit that goal, reward yourself, and then make another, and repeat. Goals are a huge driving factor in motivation and success, and help you get through your work out!


Current muscle mass; Ensure you understand the limitations that your body can handle, do not overdo it, or try to tackle something too big or too hard. Smaller weights, in higher repetitions are just as effective as "maxing out" or doing higher weight in lower repetitions.


Alcohol; Avoid it as much as you can, bottom line. It breaks down your muscle mass if consumed in large quantities, and what's the point of putting in all the effort if you just throw it away later?


HELPFUL TIP: for each pound of body weight you have, you'll need to consume between 1.5 - 2.0 grams of protein per day.
